Amherst Shore is a small community in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located in Cumberland County.
On the shore of the Northumberland Strait, Amherst Shore Provincial Park offers an attractive woodland setting for camping. Walking, swimming or beachcombing are enjoyable pastimes here. The park’s main hiking trail is 2.5 km (1.5 miles) long and follows Annabelles Brook through the coastal woods out to the unsupervised beach. A walk along the park’s shore reveals distinctive red sandstone cliffs towering 12 metres (40 feet) above the strait.
Also located in Amherst Shore is Northport Beach Provincial Park. The park has a picnic area with picnic tables and a red sandy beach which is accessible by stairs. Enjoy the warm water and gentle tide; at low tide sandbars trap pools of warm water for wading.
This park, like our beach parks along this coast, offers some of the warmest saltwater swimming north of the Carolinas.
